About

James Privette is Director of Civic Innovation Policy at the Chamber of Progress. He has worked for almost a decade in the policy and advocacy space, mostly recently serving as Legislative Specialist for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) covering a broad policy portfolio that included state and local taxes, the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), and artificial intelligence.

Previously, James served his community working in local government in Montgomery County, MD, at the Montgomery County Council, and with the Office of Community Affairs for the Mayor of Washington, DC. A graduate of Virginia Tech with the double major in Economics and Political Science, James has made a steadfast commitment to advocating for policies that benefit historically disadvantaged communities.

James is a 4th generation native of Washington, DC and a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the country’s oldest Black Fraternity.
