Tyler Smith is Director of State and Local Government Relations for the Central Region at Chamber of Progress. Smith brings recent experience working in government affairs, both at a public relations firm and as a staffer on Capitol Hill. Most recently, Smith served as Executive Assistant to Senator John Ossoff (D-GA). Previously, Smith worked as a Government Affairs Clerk at the BGR Group.
Smith’s political experience also includes stints in the office of then-Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) and public engagement work for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. During the 2018 election cycle, Smith campaigned with Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, and in 2019 for Houston City Councilmember Carla Brailey.
Along with his many work accomplishments, Tyler serves on the National Public Policy Committee for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc and as a Policy Fellow for the Wilson Center.
Tyler was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where he first learned about making a difference in his community. As a senior in high school, Tyler received an award for his civil awareness from the California State Assembly. Since then, Tyler has received awards and highlights from leaders including the former U.S. ambassador Andrew Young to former President of Liberia, Madam Ellen Johnson, Sirleaf.
In Tyler’s free time, he enjoys reading, traveling, playing golf, working with Young Democrats of America, the Wilson Center, and Kappa Alpha Psi.
