Chamber of Progress Endorses CA AI Elections Bill

AB 2355 requires disclosure of AI in political advertisements

Aug 8, 2024

Chamber of Progress, a center-left tech industry group, is endorsing AI legislation in California (AB 2355) requiring the disclosure of AI-created media in political advertisements. Sponsored by Rep. Wendy Carrillo, the legislation comes in the midst of an election year in which AI-generated media has been used to support a variety of campaign-related communications. In a letter this week to CA Senate leaders, Chamber of Progress urged the California legislature to move forward with AB 2355.

“This has the makings of model AI legislation that other states could learn from,” said Chamber of Progress State Policy Director Robert Singleton. “Candidates are using AI in creative new ways to connect with more voters, but there’s also a need to protect against AI-generated election misinformation. This bill prioritizes transparency in our elections by requiring disclosures – allowing AI’s use while informing voters about the content they’re seeing.”
