EO protects access to care and safeguards privacy
On Friday, President Joe Biden issued an Executive Order on reproductive health responding to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling and efforts by Republican states to limit access to abortion and reproductive care. The EO, which safeguards access to health care services and protects patient privacy, takes a number of digital policy steps, including addressing the transfer and sale of sensitive health-related data, restricting digital surveillance related to reproductive health care, and combating misinformation.
“This is a big step towards protecting access to care and patient privacy following the disastrous Dobbs ruling – but it can’t be the last step” said Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich. “We have to ensure Americans’ data isn’t weaponized against them, which means a new national standard to protect personal reproductive health data as well as comprehensive federal privacy legislation.”
