On Monday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee considered a $1 billion proposal to create a new bureau at the FTC focused on privacy, data security, and identity theft. The proposal was packaged with the Democrats’ proposed $3.5 trillion budget plan making its way through Congress.
“Protecting consumers’ privacy and security in the digital age is a challenge that demands more resources,” said Chamber of Progress CEO and Founder Adam Kovacevich. “Consumers benefit from an FTC with more enforcement against bad guys, better technology, and clear rules for companies to follow.”
Earlier this summer, Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich published an op-ed highlighting the need for a thoughtful, targeted approach to industry regulation that focuses on the challenges facing consumers — like consumer privacy and data security — rather than political targets.
