Dems Open Dialogue With Crypto as Campaign Heats Up

Harris surrogates expected to meet with crypto execs on Monday

Aug 2, 2024

On Monday, top White House officials and crypto industry leaders are expected to meet virtually to discuss the path forward for bipartisan digital assets legislation. Representative Ro Khanna (CA-17) is convening the meeting, which will include Anita Dunn, who is leaving the White House to advise the largest super PAC backing Vice President Kamala Harris. The meeting may also include representatives from the Harris campaign.

“It’s heartening to see the Harris camp show an openness to meeting with the digital assets industry – that’s a good sign for bipartisan policy on the issue,” said Kyle Bligen, Director of Financial Policy at Chamber of Progress. “As we get closer to Election Day, we’ll hopefully see both Trump and Harris acknowledge the need for commonsense crypto regulation that protects consumers.”

The meeting comes as Congress considers multiple bipartisan crypto bills, including FIT21, which outlines a comprehensive regulatory framework for digital assets. In May, 71 House Democrats joined Republicans in passing FIT21, marking the first time a chamber of Congress advanced a crypto bill. Ahead of the vote, Chamber of Progress championed FIT21, joining a nationwide coalition of advocates supporting the bill and highlighting its positive impacts for Democratic lawmakers.
