Harris Breaks Silence On Crypto

Comments Signal Openness To Industry

Sep 23, 2024

On Sunday, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke for the first time about digital assets as the Democratic presidential nominee during a fundraiser in New York City. Harris demonstrated openness towards the crypto industry, voicing her intent to “encourage innovative technologies” like digital assets. She also signaled her intent to improve regulatory clarity and strengthen consumer safeguards for industry participants.

“It’s refreshing to see Harris embracing a sense of optimism about crypto’s potential,  while recognizing that more regulation protects consumers,” said Kyle Bligen, Director of Financial Policy at Chamber of Progress. “This is an important signal that Harris sees digital assets as something to regulate, not forbid.”

According to nationwide polling, one in five registered voters consider crypto regulation a major voting issue in the upcoming election. Chamber of Progress sent a letter and launched a petition last month urging the ABC debate moderators to ask a crypto question at the first debate between the presidential nominees. Former President Donald Trump has reversed his previous position on digital assets, though his specific crypto policy goals remain unclear.
