Report offers 89 policy recommendations for future Congresses
Today, the House’s bipartisan task force on artificial intelligence released an expansive report with 89 policy recommendations for Congress to advance AI development. One notable recommendation in the 250+ page report is for Congress to promote “sectoral regulation” for AI, rather than a centralized regulatory approach. The report also endorses a bipartisan proposal to authorize a national AI research resource.
“What’s important about this report is the recognition that you can’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to regulating something as wide-ranging as AI,” said Chamber of Progress Vice President of Technology Policy Todd O’Boyle. “You also can’t put AI back in a box, so if Congress wants to get the ball rolling on these recommendations, they should start by funding the national AI research resource.”
The Bipartisan Senate AI Working Group released their roadmap for AI policy in May, which Chamber of Progress applauded. Both the House and Senate proposals stand in stark contrast to state-level efforts to regulate artificial intelligence, many of which have taken a broad approach to defining AI technology that penalizes innovation in the tech industry.
