President Biden Has Led on Bringing Tech to More People

CHIPS Act and broadband initiative helped consumers, supported American leadership on tech

Jul 21, 2024

Today, President Joe Biden announced his intention to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Over the past four years, President Biden achieved a number of legislative victories on tech policy, including the passage of the landmark CHIPS Act and the creation of the Affordable Connectivity Program, which helped 23 million US households afford Internet access.

“Biden deserves a lot of credit for taking big steps to bring tech jobs and benefits to more people and more places,” said Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich. “The CHIPS Act and Affordable Connectivity Program were historic wins that have brought tech jobs and connectivity to millions of people. He has been an outstanding leader who has really cared about bringing tech opportunities to more Americans.”

Biden presided over the debut of advanced AI systems, a development which he responded to by bringing together industry stakeholders for a set of voluntary commitments, and with a sweeping executive order. Biden was also the first to pursue a whole-of-government approach to digital assets with an executive order aimed at fostering cryptocurrency development, expanding access to safe and affordable financial services, and reducing the cost of cross-border transfers and payments.
