Decision eliminates the right to abortion
On Friday, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the foundational ruling protecting the constitutional right to abortion. The Court decision is expected to lead to total abortion bans in half of U.S. states.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision will have immediate and devastating consequences for women across the country,” said Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich. “Lawmakers must continue fighting to enshrine the promise of Roe v. Wade into law, and ensure tech policy reflects the heightened need to protect privacy online.”
In the weeks since the Roe v. Wade decision first leaked, privacy experts have raised concerns that health and location data could be used to prosecute women for seeking an abortion. Democratic lawmakers have introduced multiple bills this month in an effort to bolster privacy protections in advance of the decision.
