About

Gary Winslett is an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department and the International Politics and Economics Program at Middlebury College where he has taught since 2018. His first book Competitiveness and Death: Trade and Politics in Cars, Beef, and Drugs analyzes the politics surrounding regulatory trade barriers in the auto, meat, and pharmaceutical sectors. He has also published scholarly journal articles on the burgeoning digital trade in services, WTO plurilateral negotiations such as the Information Technology Agreement and the Environmental Goods Agreement, technology and the changing geography of trade, international regulatory cooperation, and other international political economy topics. His current work focuses on the technology sector and pro-growth capitalist solutions to climate change. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at the European University Institute after receiving his Ph.D. from Boston College in 2016. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of Florida in 2009. For the last few years, he’s been an outspoken advocate for housing-friendly zoning reform. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing and hiking with his wife Becky and five-year-old daughter Adelaide.
