Trump Lawsuit Threatens to Put Extremists Back Online
Jul 7, 2021

On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump announced a class-action lawsuit against Google, Twitter, and Facebook over the suspension of his social media accounts following his incitement of the January 6th insurrection. Chamber of Progress, a new center-left tech industry coalition, releases the following statement:

“Right wing extremists are turning to the courts because their own platforms have collapsed after becoming anything-goes dumping grounds for hate, hoaxes, and pornography,” said Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich. “Now they want to turn Facebook, Google, and Twitter into another cesspool for extremism.”

Last week, a federal court reaffirmed the right of social media companies to referee content on their platforms, overturning a Florida law that restricted content moderation.
