White House Says Section 230 Tech Liability is Under Review
Jul 20, 2021

On Tuesday, White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield said that the Biden Administration is reviewing policies related to tech liability for online content, including Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Large social media companies rely on Section 230 to moderate content, protecting them from liability when they remove hate speech and disinformation from their platforms.

“Section 230 is what gives social media companies the protection to remove bad content from their platforms. Eliminating Section 230 and expecting better digital media is like pulling the refs from the court and expecting better game play,” said Chamber of Progress CEO Adam Kovacevich. “The motivation is good, but the results would be a worse Internet.”
